I love hopping onto a plane and travelling to different countries, in fact it’s one of my favourite things to do but sometimes I would rather a little stay-cation and have myself a road trip while exploring the different cities in the UK. It’s something I don’t do as often as I would like, so I’ve vowed myself to take more time to explore the UK in 2017 and hopefully fill up my diary with weekend getaways.
Starting with Cambridge.
Cambridge has always been a place I have wanted to visit, I’ve heard such lovely things and with it only being an hour down the motorway there really is no excuse not to arrange a trip. So with our bags packed and a full tank of petrol we headed on the short drive to Hotel Felix, which is where we decided to stay for our overnight trip.
Positioned just a mile away from Cambridge town, Hotel Felix is in the ideal location to explore the city and with it only being a 10 minute taxi ride from the main station it has great access to London train stations if you don’t drive.
Tucked away down a quiet road Hotel Felix really is a hidden gem, a very beautiful one at that. On arrival we were greeted by a Victorian inspired home which was surrounded by stunning gardens that go on for miles. Before even heading inside the hotel I instantly felt at home so you will not be disappointed when I tell you the inside was just as beautiful as the grounds of the hotel.
The hotel has very charming character, you immediately feel welcomed. The decor is modern and very tasteful which flows throughout the whole hotel.
The hotel is made up of 52 rooms and has a selection of suites to choose from, including a penthouse. Our night was spent in one of their classic bedrooms which was impressive enough. All rooms have an amazing view of the hotel grounds, ours overlooked the courtyard and had a King size bed. I can honestly say it was the most comfortable bed I have ever stayed in, so comfortable that I even considered booking an extra nights stay. It made leaving the hotel in the morning even harder than you can imagine.
The rooms are very spacious and come with all the essentials for a night away. All rooms come with the below;
- Hypnos King size beds
- Egyptian cotton sheets and duck down pillows and duvets
- Air conditioning (many rooms)
- Fluffy towels and bathrobes
- White Company toiletries
- Underfloor heating (most bathrooms)
- Mini bar
- Tea and coffee making facilities
- Complimentary Wi-fi
- Smart TV with freeview channels
- Personal safe and hair dryer
- Direct dial telephone system with voicemail
The highlight of our stay was dining at the hotels Graffiti restaurant. The award winning restaurant looks out onto the terrace and gardens which makes a beautiful setting for dinner. We sat by the open fire while we sipped on white wine and had a delicious cooked three course meal. The menu has a selection of amazing dishes. To start I had the Smoked Chicken and Vegetable Broth followed by the Rib-eye Steak , Watercress Salad, Hand Cut Chips. By the time it came to dessert I was so full I couldn’t indulge but I was impressed by the first two dishes, they were cooked to absolute perfection
Our stay at Hotel Felix was faultless. The staff and guests are so friendly and welcoming which just makes the whole experience that much better. The hotel has a relaxed homely vibe so you instantly feel settled. I would recommend planning a full day of exploring in Cambridge town while staying at Hotel Felix. Unfortunately for us the weather wasn’t great so we couldn’t do as much sight seeing as we had hoped but we did find time for a spot of shopping and lunch in town. Make sure you ask the reception staff on things to do/ places to go as they are very helpful and accommodating.
If you are planning on visiting Cambridge I would highly recommend making Hotel Felix your choice of stay. I am planning a trip back to Hotel Felix in the warmer months so I can experience Cambridge to it fullest and take a canal ride on the river.
